About half of low-income students will graduate from high school. Those who do graduate perform, on average, at an eighth grade level. And fewer than 1 in 10 low-income students will graduate from college. End educational inequality. We are here to close the achievement gap and ensure that all students receive a quality education. To do so, we need your help!

KIPP: Journey Academy, opened in August 2008 with a class of fifth graders and now serves over 300 students in grades 5-8. Our School Director now Executive Director, Hannah Powell Tuney, has a vision for establishing a school that will give students an opportunity to realize more fully the amazing potential they have inside of them. KIPP Journey Academy will serve as an educational model for what can, and should, be provided for all students, regardless of their background.

We are part of the nationally acclaimed network (KIPP, the Knowledge is Power Program) of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools that is challenging assumptions about what children growing up in our lowest income communities can achieve.

At KIPP, we believe that demography does not determine destiny. Nationally, one in five low-income students makes it to college. KIPP is defying this statistic by building partnerships among parents, students, and teachers that puts learning first. We provide our students with outstanding educators, more time learning, and a strong culture of achievement, thereby helping all students climb the mountain to college. KIPP is sending students to college at a rate four times higher than other schools.

Volunteer

You have so much to offer to our KIPPsters. You can mentor a student, helping them to stay on the path to college. You can help raise student achievement by reading with a student or tutoring math, science, or social studies. You can provide our students with the opportunities available to their middle class peers by supporting enrichment opportunities, like activities in the arts and technology. Do you have other ideas on how you can help? We welcome your suggestions and need your help.

This year, it takes just $3,800 to close the gap between public funding and the cost of one student's college-preparatory KIPP Central Ohio education. Help close the funding gap and the achievement gap for under-served students. Sponsor a Journey to college. Donate today. Every dollar makes a difference.
