  • Assistant to the Executive Director / KIPP Central Ohio

    Executive Director Hannah Powell is responsible for leading KIPP Central Ohio in strategic planning, goal-setting, operational and financial growth, advocacy, and leadership development.

    The Assistant to the Executive Director will work closely with the Executive Director to manage her daily schedule and expenses, coordinate travel, engage strategic partners and supporters in the community, and complete all other tasks associated with leading and expanding KIPP Central Ohio.

    Responsibilities

    • Schedule meetings and appointments on behalf of Executive Director
    • Organize visits of community stakeholders (organizations, businesses, elected officials, etc.) to KIPP Journey Academy and future KIPP schools
    • Coordinate travel of Executive Director and other staff to KIPP-sponsored visits and events around the country
    • Compile and summarize data and information necessary for KIPP region expansion process
    • Create and manage timelines of special projects and initiatives
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Detail-oriented individual with demonstrated ability to create and manage organization systems
    • Flexible, capable of multitasking, takes ownership of projects
    • Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Comfort and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite as well as Google Mail, Calendar, and Documents

  • Director of Development and Marketing / KIPP Central Ohio

    The Director of Development & Marketing will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic and diversified advancement plan. His or her work will be two-fold. First, he or she will aggressively seek and pursue opportunities to secure funds to support and advance the mission and impact of KIPP Central Ohio. Second, he or she will actively communicate with key stakeholders (families, donors, media, businesses, community organizations, public office holders, etc.) throughout the Columbus-area to promote and share KIPP Central Ohio’s stories and successes. Above all else, the Director of Development & Marketing will ensure that KIPP Central Ohio has the resources and support it needs to send all students to and through college.

    The Director of Development & Marketing will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with current and future School Leaders.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and execute a strategic fundraising, marketing, and public relations plans for KIPP Central Ohio
    • Research private foundation grant opportunities; draft and compile necessary grant proposals and applications
    • Establish meaningful, long-term relationships with current and potential individual and corporate donors
    • Supervise the planning and execution of fundraising events and donor recognition
    • Prepare and present fundraising reports for Executive Director and Board of Directors
    • Meet regularly with School Leaders and Managers of School Operations to assess and identify critical projects and initiatives with fundraising need
    • Draft, publish, and distribute monthly newsletters to inform key stakeholders (families, donors, media, businesses, community organizations, public office holders, etc.)of KIPP Central Ohio updates
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with members of the press; schedule and draft press releases for key KIPP Central Ohio announcements and initiatives

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree; experience within and educational environment preferred
    • At least two years of fundraising experience, including significant success with major gifts, corporations, foundations and/or government sources
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences
    • Commitment to the belief that outstanding School Leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes for all students

  • Director of Finance and Operations / KIPP Central Ohio

    To support the mission of KIPP Central Ohio, the Director of Finance and Operations will be charged with ensuring efficient and effective operations in the regional office and across all existing and future schools. Specifically, the Director of Finance and Operations will be responsible for ensuring sound fiscal management, compliance with state and federal regulations, and the safety, security, and well being of our team and family. As the coordinator of site level operations, the Director of Finance and Operations will be responsible for contracting and managing support services including finance and payroll, transportation, IT, food service, custodial, and facility maintenance. The Director of Finance and Operations will also play a key role in planning the expansion of the region.

    Above all else, the Director of Finance and Operations will prove essential in allowing School Leaders, teachers, and other instructional staff to focus on driving student achievement and growth.

    The Director of Finance and Operations will work closely with School Leaders to manage school-level Business Managers. He/she will report directly to the KIPP Central Ohio Executive Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Secure and manage contracts for region-wide support services including finance and payroll, transportation, IT, food service, custodial, and facility maintenance
    • Analyze and synthesize monthly financial statements for the region, in collaboration with the Treasurer and Executive Director; prepare and present region’s finances to Board of Directors
    • Plan, track and manage the budget for the region, and make recommendationsto the Executive Director throughout the financial planning process
    • Identify, develop, and implement operational process improvements that will support highly efficient and effective performance as KIPP Central Ohio continues to grow in size and complexity
    • Lead the acquisition and planning for new facilities, determining cost-effective solutions related to the expansion of the region
    • Manage, in conjunction with School Leaders, all region- and school-level operational compliance obligationsrequiredby KIPP, charter sponsors, and state and federal agencies
    • Participate in and contribute to the regional strategic planning and growth process
    • Assist the Executive Director in implementing strong operational norms in the KIPP Central Ohio regional office

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree; Graduate degree preferred, with strong preference for candidates with 5+ years of management experience

      Commitment and Opportunities

      This is an unpaid position with a minimum commitment of six months. The Executive Assistant Intern will work closely with the Executive Director and report directly to the Lead Intern. This position can be filled remotely. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required and applicant must have daily access to work email.

      As his/her schedule permits, the Executive Assistant Intern will have the opportunity to participate in conference calls and in-person meetings with important stakeholders, as well as interact with KIPP Journey staff and students. He/she may also have the opportunity to own special projects and initiatives aligned with growth of the region.

    The Executive Intern will work closely with the Executive Director Hannah Powell to maneuver the growth process, build a regional office, engage strategic partners in the community, and complete other tasks associated with leading and expanding KIPP Central Ohio.

  • Manager of Talent and Recruitment / KIPP Central Ohio

    The Manager of Talent & Recruitment will recruit and onboard all KIPP Central Ohio staff. The Manager will develop strategies to acquire talent for both the regional office and schools, as well as own the collection, analysis, and organization of all data associated with recruitment efforts. They will be responsible for establishing recruitment metrics and partnering with regional office staff and school leaders to ensure efficiency and integrity across all recruitment processes. Ultimately, the Manager of Talent & Recruitment is charged with equipping KIPP Central Ohio with the extraordinary individuals it needs to send all students to and through college.

    The Manager of Talent & Recruitment reports to the Executive Director and works closely with regional office staff members and School Leaders.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Develop, implement, and manage all talent recruitment strategies for available regional office or school-level positions
    • Update and disseminate marketing materials for open positions
    • Create process for tracking potential applicants for future positions
    • Screen resumes, schedule and coordinate candidate interviews
    • Draft and publish job and internship descriptions
    • Collaborate with regional office staff and School Leaders to develop and streamline onboarding processes
    • Coordinate with Director of Finance & Operations to ensure efficient and innovative Human Resources practices and procedures

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree; Human resources experience a plus

  • Reading Specialist / KIPP Journey Academy

    KIPP Journey Academy seeks dynamic instructional leaders to teach our children. We firmly believe that achieving strong literacy skills is the key to academic success. Our Reading Specialist will have a major impact on integrating literacy throughout our school and work to improve the reading abilities of our children reading below grade level using targeted intervention programs and small group reading instruction.

    Responsibilities and duties include:

    • Explicitly teach students in all grades the strategies of good reading with the end goal of accelerating their reading comprehension skills to appropriate grade level

    • Provide differentiated instruction to a wide-range of learners including students learning English as a Second Language and students with special needs
    • Develop and administer 5th grade reading interventions with the end goal of closing the literacy gap before students reach the Upper School
    • Provide one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction in and out of the classroom Administer multiple forms of assessment, including summative (such as Fountas and Pinnell) and formative assessments, and use these assessments to inform lesson planning and day to day instructional strategies
    • Collaboriate with Performance Evaluation Manager to use ongoing student assessment data and place students into small learning groups

    • Use assessment data to determine content and strategies for small group instruction.
    • Collaborate with the instructional team to respond to the needs of the individual students, to plan lessons, projects and student exhibitions


    • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops and outside events
    • Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor
    • Provide resources, organize and lead professional development workshops in collaboration with the School Director Manager and Literacy Content Chair
    • Coach classroom teachers on the implementation of core, supplemental, and intensive intervention approaches for reading and writing grades 5 to 8 and provide feedback
    • Use data for instructional decision-making and to drive coaching plans for teachers Provide support for the implementation of KIPP: Journey Academy’s literacy program, working with the Literacy team and outside resources as necessary
    • Help administer the school’s identified screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic, and outcome reading measures
    • Maintain regular communication with School Director on student literacy growth data

    General Responsibilities

    • Model professionalism through dress.
    • Remain available to address students’ and families’ questions and concerns after school hours via a school-provided cell phone.
    • Arrive at school no later than 7:30 AM and leave after school concludes on weekdays.
    • Model and teach the values of KIPP Journey Academy.
    • Adhere to school policies, procedures, and deadlines.
    • Maintain a safe learning environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience

    • Two years of successful, full-time, lead teaching experience recommended.
    • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
    • Masters Degree in Reading or Literacy education preferred.
    • Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas.
